Most pundits had the Bucs struggling in 2023. Faced with a third of their salary cap budget going on dead money, the expectations were for a five or six win season with some writers even predicting the worst record in the NFL. Todd Bowles’ team surprised everyone by taking their third straight NFC South division title and making the playoffs for a fourth straight year. And when they got into the post-season, they easily beat the defending NFC champion Eagles before falling in the Divisional round in Detroit. There was a run of six defeats in seven games followed by a similar winning pattern. The draft class was excellent and the re-emergence of former first overall pick Baker Mayfield as a starting NFL QB was evident.
