It took over a decade for any Buccaneer player to wear this number in competitive play and even then, it was a replacement team member who wore it first. And ultimately second too as Brian Gant was one of the two strike team players to stay on the roster for the remainder of the 1987 season and he switched from his strike 54 jersey to a regular 91. The number then passed through the hands of some nondescript defensive linemen including Rhett Hall who won a magazine's Ugliest Buccaneer award in 1991 and Herman Smith who spent some time with the London Monarchs. Regan Upshaw was a first round draft pick who switched from the 73 jersey after his rookie season, followed by Chartric Darby who also played some with the Barcelona Dragons that helped to enamour him with fans too during his time with the Buccaneers. Stylez G White came from nowhere to lead the team in sacks in 2007 but was a pure pass-rush specialist and and always seemed to flatter to deceive as a full-time starting end in the NFL. The jury returned an ultimate bust tag on Da'Quan Bowers after four sub-par seasons with the Bucs.
