Started for four seasons at tackle and was one of the scrappiest, hardest-working players on the roster. Got into a fight with Ray Perkins in a 1987 game in New Orleans when he urged the team at half-time "don't quit" and Perkins only heard the last word and started a ruck with him. The feud continued after the game and at the end of the season, Perkins traded Heller to the Seahawks, who then traded him on to Philadelphia where he started for another four seasons, followed by three more in Miami before retiring to the Bay Area. Caught a TD pass on a tackle-eligible play in a 1986 season game.
