Although the two starting guards were easy to allocate as they are only Pro Bowlers at that position but the back-ups took a little more thought. Ian Beckles has always believed he was a lot better than his career actually indicates but although Randy Grimes was primarily a center, he did play a fair bit at guard and his primary position was over-loaded with talent. STARTER - ALI MARPET Was one of the finest offensive linemen in franchise history during his seven years with the Buccaneers and started every game he was healthy for. Announced his retirement in February 2022 having earned his first Pro Bowl trip after the 2021 season. Was rewarded with a long-term extension in 2018 when he returned to guard after a one-year experiment at center STARTER - DAVIN JOSEPH One of the best guards ever to play for the Buccaneers and a solid first round pick who started almost 100 games for the franchise being named to the Pro Bowl after the 2008 season. Went on to play a season for the St.Louis Rams before leaving the NFL for good. Was the 23rd overall pick of the 2006 draft. BACK-UP - IAN BECKLES Long-time starter at guard for the Bucs before leaving as a free agent after the 1996 season and played under Ray Perkins, Richard Williamson, Sam Wyche, and Tony Dungy. Went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1997-1999 before having brief stints with the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos in 1999 and 2000. Went to a career presenting a sports radio show for WDAE 620 in Tampa. BACK-UP - RANDY GRIMES Spent ten years with the Bucs and was the starting center for eight of them before giving way to Tony Mayberry. Missed the entire 1991 season through injury but was the first Buccaneer player to have played for five different head coaches (McKay, Bennett, Perkins, Williamson and Wyche). Has done some amazing work in retirement working with recovering addicts and wrote a superb semi-autobiography that deals with many off-field issues in 2022. HONORABLE MENTIONS Sean Farrell was a good first round pick and both Cosey Coleman and Frank Middleton had their moments at the position for the Buccaneers but this was definitely a tougher position to fill out the all-time roster.
