Doug Williams and Jimmie Giles teamed up for their second touchdown pass of the game with 1:47 remaining to give the Bucs victory in their season opener at a soaking wet Riverfront Stadium. The Bucs had earlier missed a chance for a winning fieldgoal on a fumbled snap, only for Bengal punter Pat McInally to return the favour on a fumbled punt snap. Cincinnati, led by future Buc QB Jack Thompson, was held to just 128 yards of total offense, with just 16 coming through the air.
