The infamous FG blooper
Metropolitan Stadium
17 September 1978

The background
If there is one clip of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that has been played more across NFL history than any other, then this is it. The infamous botched fieldgoal from the early days of the franchise.

Yet it is not from the expansion team as many people wrongly believe, but actually from a 1978 road game that the Bucs won in a stunning 16-10 upset of the Minnesota Vikings.

The game situation
The Bucs were attempting a fieldgoal when the snap went over both holder Dave Green and kicker Neil O'Donoghue. The latter then made an abortive attempt to kick the bouncing ball and missed it completely.

The Vikings recovered and it was left to O'Donoghue and Jim Obradovich to make the tackle deep inside Tampa Bay territory, having lost 80 yards in the process.
