A little bit of razzle dazzle
Tampa Stadium
25 October 1987

The background
The players' strike had ended a few days before and all the regular Buccaneers and Bears took the field on a hot Sunday afternoon in Tampa. The Bucs were 3-2 in the combined standings and had a chance to test themselves against the still formidable champions of Super Bowl XX.

And out of the Ray Perkins' playbook came a trick play for the ages, one that really should have been seen by more people than probably know about it.

The game situation
The Bucs led 7-0 in the first quarter and were at the Bear 28-yard line. Steve DeBerg pitched the ball to RB Jeff Smith who in turn, handed off to WR Gerald Carter coming from the left sideline. Carter returned it to DeBerg, who then fired down the left side where Smith had beat his linebacker and caught the ball for a memorable touchdown.
