| Who needs a helmet? Raymond James Stadium 3 October 2004 The background The Bucs were in sharp decline from their Super Bowl days and were suffering from some bad over-the-hill free agency signings including RB Charlie Garner who had blown his knee out the previous week. At 0-3, they needed a win against the Denver Broncos to right the ship. They didn't get it in spite of this amazing play from rookie WR Michael Clayton. This touchdown also turned out to be the final one of Brad Johnson's Buccaneer career. He was benched the following week for first Chris Simms and then Brian Griese and left Tampa at the end of the 2004 season. The game situation The Bucs had 3rd & 5 from their own 49-yard line Johnson hit Clayton behind the secondary and the latter made a diving catch to secure the ball. Former Buc John Lynch came over but shied away from a big hit in case of drawing a penalty and hence never actually downed Clayton. He got up and ran into the endzone sans helmet.
