The first safety
Tampa Stadium
20 November 1988

The background
The Bucs took a long time to record some firsts in their history. 26 games until a win, 31 seasons until a kick return touchdown, and how about nearly 13 years until their first safety?

And I remember it well because I was there and even gave Kerry Goode a high-five on the sideline as he returned to the bench to celebrate.

It actually came during another hammering at the hands of the Chicago Bears in the 1980s and had absolutely no impact on the result of the game. But it was memorable all the same of course.

The game situation
The Bears were facing 4th and 3 from their own 16-yard line but the snap back to punter Bryan Wagner was way too high. Reserve RB Kerry Goode chased Wagner down in the endzone and tackled him to record the first-ever Buccaneer two pointer.
