| A record-breaking kick Los Angeles Coliseum 8 November 1993 The background For six years, the Buccaneers had a Sheffield Wednesday fan as their kicker. Michael "Como Este" Husted (as Mike Carlson always called him) did a pretty good job before being passed on in favour of FUAT. And until Matt Bryant came along (naturally to be seen later in this countdown), Husted held the record for the longest fieldgoal in franchise history, an amazing 57-yarder kicked in the Coliseum against the then Los Angeles Raiders. And it came in a really bad tempered game that saw Hardy Nickerson ejected, and Sam Wyche starting a defensive back at WR just for the chance to go after a player's knee on the first play from scrimmage. The game situation 10 seconds left in the first half and the Bucs are 17-7 down with the ball at the Raider 40-yard line. Sam Wyche decides to give Husted a chance for glory and the rookie kicker makes it with some ease. Click here for the game reports and stats |
