| The first Buc TD pass Tampa Stadium 17 October 1976 The background The expansion Buccaneers were bad. Really bad. I mean, 0-14 doesn't even start to cover it. And it took them five and a half games just to record their first passing touchdown and even that didn't come from a quarterback. RB Louis Carter was the master of the option pass in the early years of the Bucs as already featured in this countdown, but this little scoring play was nowhere in the coaching game plan and was totally improvised at the time. It didn't help the Bucs win this game in the battle of the expansion franchises though, a game that lives in infamy in NFL annals. The game situation The Bucs are trailing 13-3 and have third and goal at the one-yard line. John McKay naturally calls for a running play up the middle again and once again, Louis Carter is stopped. But then he makes history with his two-handed pitch to the right side of the formation where Morris Owens catches it and steps into the endzone for an historic score.
