The Great curse is lifted
Raymond James Stadium
16 December 2007

The background
It was the most famous statistic in NFL history. Every single Buccaneer game needed the commentators to make reference to it at some point in the broadcast. Tampa Bay had never returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

And then 1864 previous attempts spanning Houston in 1976 to Tampa Bay in 2007, a recently signed free agent named Micheal Spurlock (note the spelling), made history.

The touchdown made national news. Every other NFL game had a game break to show the play and the commentary on the TV feed (which we have included) was even better than Gene Deckerhoff for once.

Oh yes, and the Bucs won the game 37-3 to clinch the division title. Like anyone actually noticed.

The game situation
The Bucs were leading 7-3 when Morten Andersen kicked to Spurlock at the Buccaneer 10-yard line. Then history was made.

Whereas the top 20-30 plays do stand out and are able to be ranked subjectively (and have been by some of the Tampa media), the early plays are generally spread out across the years and can only be placed approximately in terms of their importance.
