The gutsiest call of all
Raymond James Stadium
13 November 2005

The background
Everything that could have gone right for the Bucs in 2005 did and hence they wound up in the playoffs. And this game was pivotal and showed some serious guts from Jon Gruden in going for the win with a two-point conversion inside the final minute, instead of kicking the PAT and going for overtime.

Did Mike Alstott actually cross the goal-line on the play? If you are a Bucs fan - who cares? Even though it went to replay, it is not conclusive but it was called on the field and is in the record books all the same.

The game situation
The Bucs had just scored on Edell Shepherd's 30-yard reception from Chris Simms but the Bucs still trailed 35-34. Lavar Arrington had been called offside on that play so the penalty was enforced on the PAT making it a yard and a half. Jon Gruden went for the win with 58 seconds left and Mike Alstott went up the middle for the score that was confirmed by the replay official.
