As time moves on, some former Buccaneers are sadly no longer with us. Here we will pay a lasting tribute to them particularly when there is a story behind their passing that Tampa Bay fans should know.

Gaines Adams
Defensive end 2007-09
Died at the tender age of 26 from an enlarged heart after just three NFL seasons. Had been traded to Chicago in October 2009.

Jerry Anderson
Safety 1978
Only played two games for the Bucs but became a hero in his home town after dying in saving a local boy from drowning.

Ricky Bell
Running back, 1977-81
Well-known story about his tragic death from a heart disease that was turned into a made-for-tv-film starring Mario van Peebles.

Theo Bell
Wide Receiver, 1981-85
Played five seasons as the No.3 receiver having won two Super Bowl rings in Pittsburgh. Died in May 2006 after a long battle with liver failure.

Darryl Carlton
Tackle, 1977-1979
Played three seasons in Tampa Bay having arrived in a trade with Miami. Started for most of the 1977 and 1978 seasons. Died in April 1994.

Neal Colzie
Safety, 1980-83
Passed away in 2001 having been with the Bucs for four seasons in the early 1980s. Unfortunately had some drug issues on leaving the NFL too.

Marquis Cooper
Linebacker, 2004-2005
Third-round pick in 2004 who played two seasons in Tampa as a special teamer. Died in a boating accident off the Clearwater Beach coast in March 2009.

Steve Courson
Guard, 1984-85
Long-time Steeler who spent two years in Tampa. Died in an accident at his home when a tree fell on him in 2005.

Ivory Curry
Safety 1987
A member of the replacement team from 1987 and started two games. Died at the tender age of 28 from pneumonia.

Demetrius DuBose
Linebacker, 1993-96
Shot by police following a disturbance at his house in San Diego in 1999. Had some unfortunate domestic issues upon leaving the NFL.

Bobby Futrell
Safety 1986-90
Former USFL and Buccaneer defensive back who tragically committed suicide in 1992 after his pro career had ended in the CFL with Toronto.

Randy Gill
Linebacker, 1978
Played in just the 1978 season finale against New Orleans for the Buccaneers and was then cut the following camp. Died in February 2002.

Ron Hall
Tight end, 1987-1993
Spent seven years in Tampa and remains the 2nd best TE in Buc history after Jimmie Giles. Died in 2007.

Brice Hunter
Wide Receiver,1997-98
Was shot dead in a disturbance outside his home in Chicago in April 2004. Had a basketball tourney named for him in Georgia in 2005.

Jeff Komlo
Quarterback, 1984
NFL journeyman who saw action briefly during 1984. Had some legal issues after football and died in Greece in 2009.

David Logan
Nose tackle, 1979-86
Not just known for his eight years on the field, but was also the Bucs' radio analyst for several seasons too. Died from a heart attack at the age of 42.

Tom McHale
Off Line, 1987-1992
Spent six years in Tampa having converted from defense to offense after his rookie season. Died in May 2008.

Jeff Modesitt
Tight end, 1987
Played one game for the 1987 strike team and had also played in Atlanta. Was shot in a bar altercation in 1990.

Dwayne O'Steen
Cornerback, 1982-83
Played in three games over two seasons on special teams, the playoff game of 1982 and the first three games of the following year before being released. Died in September 2001.

Played just eight games and had one carry as a Buccaneer. Found dead in a Tampa motel room in 2003.

Tony Samuels
Tight end, 1980
Appeared in six games during 1980 but made only one reception as a Buc despite making three starts in the process. Died in September 2001.

Head coach, 1976-84

Owner, 1976-1994
The first owner of the Bucs having been granted the expansion franchise in 1974. Not unduly popular for over-seeing the losing decades with a lack of spending on and off the field.
