Gone but not forgotten
Martin Gramatica has gone, and for most fans this is a joyous occasion. His miscues of the past 2 seasons have sometimes been painful and embarrassing to watch. Last Sunday’s performance of 2 missed field goals and one blocked one, signalled the end of the road for a patient Buc’s management team.
However, we must not forget that for a number of seasons our exuberant kicker was the difference between victory and defeat. In fact there were times when our only offense seemed to be to get it within field goal range, and rarely did he disappoint.
The NFC championship game versus the Rams is a prime example. If memory serves me correctly he scored all our points and if he’d been allowed to try a couple more attempts, instead of us going for it on fourth down, we may have made the Superbowl with Tony D at the helm.
So instead of celebrating his release, I would instead like to thank Martin Gramatica. If not for you we would not have won nearly so many games as we did. You helped us win a Superbowl, you helped us win games and you showed us that kickers can get excited too.
You gave us excitement on the field and you have handled leaving with determination and quiet dignity (unlike a certain WR).
To you Martin Gramatica, I wish good luck and a speedy return to your dream, but most of all I would like to say thank you for all the good times you helped bring.
