Finally a Good Week
Surprising and welcoming were the emotions that we probably all felt as the clock ticked down in Cleveland last Sunday. Maybe the result says more about the Browns than ourselves but you still have to win the game in front of you, and for prides sake alone the tanning we handed out did at least give us reason to smile again.

It was a rollback week of sorts with Mike Alstott and Mr Bicep carrying the rushing load, and Bucs D doing what it used to do best forcing turnovers and shutting down the opposition. To top the whole thing off Derrick ran one back for old times sake and once again highlighted that though some of the skills may have been eroded by age, the instincts remain to get your hands up in the throwing lanes and snag that pigskin.

A few things I think

1) I see Cadillac is eager to return this weekend though I don’t really see the point in rushing him back. Unless he is totally healed he’d be best served getting a jump start on healing his body and start the analysis on what the hell went wrong with him and us in our “running game” (I use the term loosely) of 2006

2) Am I the only person who finds it rather fitting that the Dolphins will be starting a Lemon at QB this weekend. I’ve often thought a piece of fruit would do a better job that Joey Harrington and so it now seems with our neighbourhood yokels from down the coast.

3) Is this week to be Mike Alstott’s and Dave Moore’s last weekend as Bucs and pro football players I tip my hat to them for their contribution over the years.

4) I think I hope Maurice Jones- Drew goes for 105 or more rushing yards this Sunday and tops the 1,000 mark. If he does then cha-ching goes The Masked Raiders 6th round draft choice – Steve Ill be on the phone around 9ish if this comes to pass!

5) I think seasons in the NFL seem to pass even more quickly these days. Lets enjoy this Sundays broadcast as it’s the last for a good while. The legend that is Gene Deckerhoff is to be savoured!

6) Happy new year to all Bucs fans – lets hope 2007 sends us back towards being a winning football team.

Then following the victory to put a little gloss on our Christmas celebrations, news came through that we had inked Chris Simms to a new two-year deal, thus averting free agency and locking up our most coveted free agent. Good job to the Bucs front office, and kudos to Chris himself for realising he still has something left to finish in Tampa. The signing takes a lot of the pressure off in terms of drafting another QB in the draft, and perhaps we may also have strengthened our hand in trading down and garnering more picks? Just a thought.

It’s the final game of the season this weekend against the Seahawks who have clinched their division with a pathetic 8-7 mark and may be resting players up for the following week. With this in mind and our impressive one-game win streak in hand I’ll go against my sceptical personality and tip a 20-17 Bucs win with a TD for Mike Alstott to help him call it a career, and bow out in style.

Maybe Mr Bicep can join him in the end zone as well as we take throwback weekend games in the NFL to a new dimension – perhaps Hardy can come out of the booth and play middle linebacker for us as well to complete the job.

Nod of Acknowledgement to - Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Fast Willie Parker, Joseph Addai, Willis McGahee, Reggie Bush, Wayne, Reggie Brown, Lee Evans, Mark Clayton, Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Shockey, LJ Smith, Neil Rackers, Joe Nedney and the Chicago Bears Defense ……these guys were the staples of my fantasy team that has just won the FFL Title. I’d have every single one of them back if I could as I think it’s probably the best team I’ll ever have.

Sports News Story I No Longer Give a Toss About – New York Giants collapse. Its been analysed, double analysed, microscoped and blame has been dished out to about 6 different parties. I’ll summise it simply here – the Coach is a control freak and a relic of his profession, the players hate his guts and won’t play for him…end of.

Get in the Real World Award - Falcons coach Jim Mora. You go on a radio show and “supposedly” joke by openly auditioning for another job, and then wonder what all the fuss is about. Hello, earth to Jim? Id wager Mr Mora will have all the time in the world to search for another job within the next 7 days.
