Signed as a free agent during 1983 and was James Wilder's blocker for most of two seasons before Leeman Bennett switched to a one-back, two-tight end offense in 1985. With his playing time and value diminished, Armstrong was released after his third season in Tampa Bay. Originally a free agent signing of the Cowboys in 1979, he played three years with Houston before becoming a Buccaneer. Was known by the nickname of "Lead Dog" and originally wore the 46 shirt as in 1983 and 1984 but then switched to 40 in 1985.
