Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9 New Orleans Saints 13 Sunday 25 September 1988 at The SuperdomeCBS COMMENTARY CREWJames Brown and Gary Fencik
The Bucs nearly upset the Saints in their own Bayou but for a series of gaffs in the second quarter. Trailing 13-3, Kerry Goode's TD run was called back for a motion penalty, and then Goode dropped a TD pass from Vinny Testaverde. The resulting score hence was only a Donald Igwebuike fieldgoal instead of a TD, the final difference in the scores. The Saints' only TD came after Robert Goff was called for a late hit on Bobby Hebert after New Orleans had been stopped on third down. "We just weren't good enough to win today" said Ray Perkins.
