Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0 Cincinnati Bengals 21Sunday 10 October 1976 at Riverfront Stadium
GAME HIGHLIGHTS Video footage from the expansion season is limited to occasional clips from the NFL Films season highlight film as NBC who broadcast all 14 games that season, destroyed the master tapes some years later leaving none of the games available in the way other games from Buc history are. However I have been able to obtain the coverage from NFL Films’ Review of the Week in which the Bucs were featured, sometimes though not in the most flattering of highlights. The left video are the selected Buccaneer clips. The right video is the one from the Review of the Week.
The Cincinnati Bengals were so unimpressed with their 21-0 win over the Bucs that they didn't even bother to award game balls. Coaches and players alike figured a three-touchdown victory at home against a winless expansion team wasn't much to shout about. "It was just a ball game" shrugged coach Bill Johnson who had seen his team go into the game as 21 point favourites. John McKay's take on the game:" We get penalised every five seconds. I think we played better than we have been playing."
