Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 Baltimore Colts 42Sunday 3 October 1976 at Memorial Stadium
GAME HIGHLIGHTS Video footage from the expansion season is limited to occasional clips from the NFL Films season highlight film as NBC who broadcast all 14 games that season, destroyed the master tapes some years later leaving none of the games available in the way other games from Buc history are. However I have been able to obtain the coverage from NFL Films’ Review of the Week in which the Bucs were featured, sometimes though not in the most flattering of highlights. The left video are the selected Buccaneer clips. The right video is the one from the Review of the Week.
After spotting Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead, the Colts broke loose for 24 second-period points aided by Buccaneer penalties. Tampa Bay, 20 point underdogs against the spread, scored the first two touchdowns in the expansion club's short history during the game's final two minutes. Cornerback Danny Reece scooped up a fumble and raced 44 yards for a touchdown with 1:49 remaining. And then after a successful onside kick, Charlie Davis plunged over from the one to climax a four-play drive. John McKay's take on the game:" Bert Jones is not running this league .. is he?" after a controversial roughing-the-passer call by Dewey Selmon."
