Walker Says He Has 'Earned' Long-Term Deal
The Tampa Tribune, published 8 January 2006

Kenyatta Walker wants to stay with Tampa Bay. But he also wants a long-term deal. The Bucs will need to decide in the offseason if the right tackle, one of several Tampa Bay players scheduled to become a free agent, is worth it. "I want to be a Buc, but I feel like I want a long-term deal," Walker said. "That's the bottom line. I feel like I've earned it. I want to be a Buccaneer. This is where I was drafted, and I feel like I've fought myself out of a hole to be in this position - to go into the offseason with a smile. It's really the first offseason I'm really going to relax and let my agent do his thing."

Walker was a member of an offensive line that became the first unit in the 30-year history of the franchise to start the same players in every game of the season. Walker said it would be a shame to break them up. "I'm so proud of the work this offensive line has done," Walker said. "It was a patchwork offensive line, and it's the first time I've ever had a 1,000-yard rusher. I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep this group together."

Pro Bowl update
PRO BOWL PLAYERS: The NFL announced starters for the Feb. 12 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber were named starters. Josh Bidwell also will represent the Bucs in the game. It's Barber's third nod as a starter and Brooks' eighth in a row. Brooks extended his franchise record with his ninth Pro Bowl selection.

Injury update
Shelton Quarles was shaken up in the second quarter. Rookie LB Barrett Ruud replaced him for a couple of snaps before Quarles returned. Quarles led the team with 11 tackles.

Sidelined
Michael Clayton was one of the eight players inactive for Saturday's game. Clayton missed his second consecutive game with a turf toe injury. Ike Hilliard started in Clayton's place and finished with four receptions for 38 yards. The other Bucs inactives were QB Tim Rattay (third quarterback), RB Derek Watson, CB Blue Adams, T Chris Colmer, DT Anthony Davis, G Scott Jackson and TE Will Heller.

Buc notes
Saturday's game marked the first time since the 1993 season that Washington defeated the Bucs in Tampa. The Bucs had won five consecutive home games against Washington.

Chris Simms and his father, Phil, became the second father-and-son duo to start in a playoff game, joining Jeff and Jack Kemp.

Saturday’s loss snapped a streak of four straight home playoff victories, dating back to a Wild Card win over Detroit following the 1997 season. Overall, Tampa Bay is 4-2 in the postseason at home, the lone loss before this season occurring in the 1979 NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Simeon Rice’s sack of QB Mark Brunell in the fourth quarter was the seventh of his postseason career. He had four sacks during Tampa Bay’s three-game run to the Super Bowl title in 2002.
