By ending a four-game losing streak in the Georgia Dome, the Bucs finished with a 7-9 record under Greg Schiano, marking the second-most successful debut season by a Tampa Bay coach.
Jon Gruden led the 2002 Bucs to a 12-4 mark en route to winning the Super Bowl in his first season on the Tampa Bay sidelines.
"It would have been real easy for us to mail this one in today,'' DE Michael Bennett said. "But instead, we showed the tenacity of our team. That's the kind of group coach Schiano is building in Tampa.''
The Bucs had dropped 14 of their previous 15 matchups when losing the turnover battle before upsetting the Falcons.
"We wanted this game to have something to build on,'' said WR Mike Williams, who fell 4 yards short of his first 1,000-yard season. "We signed up for 16 games, and we played like that today. They say you're only as good as your last game, so that's how we're looking at it.''
