Cadillac Keeps Rolling, No Matter The Weather

So far, Cadillac Williams' wheels have rolled on turf, grass and dirt (see last week's performance in Baton Rouge). Now he's ready to drive in the snow. Next up for the rookie running back is the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass., where snow is always a possibility this time of year.

Regardless of the weather conditions, Williams isn't concerned. Nor should he be, given his success on the road this season. With his 112 rushing yards Sunday, Williams improved his personal road record to 5-1. It was his fifth 100-yard game of the season, tying a franchise record. It also proved as Cadillac goes, so goes the Bucs offense. Tampa Bay is 5-0 when Williams rushes for more than 100 yards this season. "Our focus was just unbelievable," Williams said. "You could just sense something good. We knew we could come out and play with these guys."

That wasn't the case earlier in the season. In the first meeting with Carolina, Williams gained only 29 of the Bucs' 44 rushing yards. It was his second game back after missing two games with a foot strain. "[In the previous game] you could tell those guys were geared up and they came to our home turf and basically dominated and we didn't get anything done," said Williams, who accounted for 112 of the Bucs' 114 rushing yards Sunday. "For us to come on their home turf and dominate is a great feeling."

Williams became only the second back to run up 100 or more yards on the Carolina Panthers this year. The other back? Williams' former Auburn University teammate, Miami running back Ronnie Brown. "Everybody has a hard time running the ball here," Coach Jon Gruden said. "It's a credit to Cadillac Williams. He made some great cuts. I thought Chris Simms really made some really good changes and guys blocked pretty darn good up front."

In addition to protecting Simms, who was sacked only once, the offensive line helped produce more than 100 rushing yards for the fourth consecutive game. "Everything just clicked," right tackle Kenyatta Walker said.

Now the offense will try to make the ground game click in possible snow when they travel to New England this weekend. "I've never played in snow," Williams said. "I know it's going to be cold, but what an opportunity to go play the defending world champs."
