Though they did so in a losing effort, three of the trigger pins in the Buccaneers offense – quarterback Josh Freeman, running back LeGarrette Blount and tight end Kellen Winslow – had big days in Sunday's 35-26 loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Packers.
Freeman threw for a career-best 342 yards, Blount ran for 107 yards and Winslow caught nine passes for 132 yards, marking the first time the Bucs have had a hat-trick of that nature – a 300-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver – since 2007.
"They did a nice job of keeping us in the game,'' Raheem Morris. "If some of the other possessions had gone our way, we're talking about a different ball game.''
Freeman completed 28 of 38 passes and also threw for two touchdowns. The play of the entire receiving corps factored into the Bucs' keeping pace with the Super Bowl champion Packers, he said.
"Mike Williams stepped up today and made a lot of plays and it was the same with Arrelious Benn, Kellen Winslow – those guys, they kind of answered the call as far as going out and making plays today,'' said Freeman, who completed passes to nine different players.
Williams, who caught a season-high seven passes for 83 yards and scored his first touchdown since Week 1, said the wideouts had no choice but to make plays.
"We knew we were going against man coverages, so we had to go out there and beat man-to-man,'' he said. "We didn't really pick certain matchups. We just had to beat man-to-man coverage and we did that.''
The last time the Bucs had a 300-yard passer, 100-yard runner and 100-yard receiver in the same game was Dec. 2, 2007, against the New Orleans Saints.
On that day, QB Luke McCown completed 29 of 37 passes for 313 yards, RB Earnest Graham ran 22 times for 106 yards and WR Joey Galloway caught seven passes for 159 yards.
