Denver Broncos offensive co-ordinator Max Coley, one of the targets of Tampa Bay Bucs Coach John McKay's verbal attack after Sunday's 48-13 Buc loss, responded Monday with sarcasm and questioning.
McKay yelled at Coley and head coach John Ralston as they left the field and threatened to give a portion of Coley's anatomy a sound kicking.
"Max Coley? The guy who calls the plays?" McKay asked Sunday in response to a question about his end-of-game tantrum. "1 hope he got his offensive stats up today and I hope he gets fired tomorrow. Ho knew we were hurtin'. But it always turns around . . . “
Coley said "I don't know who he wanted us to run our offensive against, if not his defensive line. His coaching staff?" Coley said he had no problems with McKay before, and added that they play golf together every year and occasionally have a few drinks.
"I think he must have lost his poise," Coley said. "If he was talking about whipping somebody after the game, as read, he knew where I was dressing. Evidently he doesn't know the difference between offense and defense and who was doing the scoring. However, be must be an expert because he's beaten a lot of college teams," Coley said, emphasizing "college”. That's the first time I've ever seen a coach blame the other coaching staff for a loss.
