Lavonte David sat stewing at his locker long after the final gun, staring straight ahead. For the second consecutive week, the All-Pro linebacker of the Buccaneers was credited with a game-high 14 tackles. And for yet another Sunday, it wasn’t enough. “All the credit to Baltimore, man-on-man, they beat us,’’ he said, never lifting up his head. “They executed their offense to perfection.’’
In a first half that will live on in Bucs infamy thanks to video, the Ravens rolled up 347 yards and 15 first downs en route to a 38-0 advantage before 60,041 disbelieving customers at toasty Raymond James Stadium. It was the largest halftime deficit by a home team in NFL history. “At the end of the day, it’s all about pride,’’ David said. “It’s game day and you’ve got to have fight. Today, we didn’t have that fight. We started out flat. Defensively, we gave up big plays and they came out ready.’’
Joe Flacco needed a tad more than 16 minutes to throw five touchdown passes, including a few over David’s head in the middle of the field. When Flacco wasn’t shredding a reeling defense, RB Justin Forsett was. Forsett, a Lakeland native, ripped off a 52-yard run on the second snap from scrimmage as David and defensive tackle Clinton McDonald were caught out of position. “We knew they were a fast defense,’’ said Forsett, who finished with 111 yards in 14 carries, “so we got them over-pursuing and were able to crease them up the middle and get a big run.’’
